School Council

Welcome to our School Council.

Each year the School Council is formed from Year 6 Pupils with a representative from each class. It has been a valuable part of the school community for more than 10 years.

Every year we are assessed for Investing in Children. We are happy to announce that we have again been awarded the Investing in Children Award for 2016.

Meetings

Meetings are held fortnightly and in the week betweeen class reps have a meeting with their own classes to discuss various issues. Class ideas are brought to the School Council meetings as well as other issues such as fundraising or school developments. A Chair and Secretary is chosen each term and also someone to write a newsletter.

Charity Work

Each term the school council raises money for a charity. Council members suggest ideas. Some successful events held in the past include ‘Fun Fridays’ where the council organise games during each Friday break and pupils paid to take part. There have also been ‘Mufty Days’ – Non Uniform, talent competitions, ‘Penny Mile’ when a line of coins was made from the school to the church, ‘welly throwing’, sponsored runs and coffee mornings. Over the years the School Council has supported charities such as Guide Dogs for the Blind, Macmillan Cancer, Bernardos, RABI, Great Ormond Street Hospital, Kalulushi School (our twin school in Zambia, Africa). Our school raised money to buy a well for a school in Zambia.

School Issues

The School Council produce a newsletter to inform all the school community about what is happening. The School Council have been active in helping to improve the school environment by suggesting new play equipment, gardening areas, pets and helping to promote tidiness, efficient use of energy and looking out for problems such as broken fences and play equipment. The School Council have also been successful in taking part in the recruitment of staff. They helped interview a new teacher, secretary and caretaker.

Responsibilities

School Council members serve breaktime snacks each day, cereal bars and hot chocolate. They also are Buddies who help to look after other pupils at breaktimes.

Monitoring

The School Council is monitored by a member of staff and also once a year by ‘Investing in Children’.
